Artistic | Scottish gymnasts earn thirteen medals at the 2025 Artistic British Championships
Scottish gymnasts won a total of thirteen medals at the 2025 British Artistic Championships in the M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool between 20 and 23 March.
Mitchell Cargill from City of Glasgow, followed his success at the Scottish by excelling at these championships. He came fifth in the under 16 all-around. won the men’s under 16 vault title – the only gold medal won by a Scot this year. His silver on floor and his vault medal earned him a spot in the junior men’s masters’ finals where he finished fourth on both pieces respectively.
Jessica Gow stepped onto the podium four times at aspire level to claim silver all-around, and she qualified in third for three apparatus finals. The Falcons gymnast put out consistent performances again in finals to claim her second silver of the championships, this time on beam, followed by bronze on bars and floor.
On his return from injury, Josh Pettigrew improved his all-around score from the Scottish Championships by five and a half marks. The West Lothian gymnast won a bronze medal on pommel in the under-16 category, marking a strong comeback performance.
Hamilton gymnast Aaron Gregory’s bronze-winning high bar routine earned him a junior masters spot on the apparatus as well as p-bar, high bar and pommel. In the finals he won his second bronze, this time on pommel where he had placed sixth in his age category. Kyle Millar (West Lothian) also competed in the under 18’s category alongside Aaron and earned a bronze medal of his own on vault with a score of 12.650.
In the senior events Cameron Lynn placed fourth all-around with 78.300, just 0.35 shy of the medal position. Qualifying for three finals there was still an opportunity for the West Lothian gymnast to medal and that he did, moving from seventh to third on pommel to take the bronze.
Over on the women’s balance beam Lottie Smith (Corby) improved her qualifying score of 12.350 to 12.500 in finals. The small margins and going clean for a second time were enough to move her up into a medal position and claim bronze.
Sophie Barnett from West Lothian is no stranger to this arena, this year qualifying on three apparatus from the 2024 British Disability Championships. Finishing just outside of medal contention on vault and beam in fourth, the West Lothian gymnast claimed her first ever British disability masters medal in the form of bronze on bars during Saturday’s event.
