Artistic | Twenty-two medals won by Scots at 2025 GymSport Matosinhos
Scotland crowned the highest scoring nation, women’s team champions and earned a further twenty individual medals at the GymSport Matosinhos competition over the weekend in Portugal.
The delegation made up of six men’s and six women’s artistic gymnasts struck gold twelve times across the team, all-around and individual competitions. Their strong performances earned them the highest scoring nation title, an incredible example of the disciplines working together as one unit.
Jessica Gow (Falcons), Sophie Campbell (City of Aberdeen) and Crystelle Lake (Park Wrekin) put out strong performances in qualifying which combined earned them the women’s team gold. Scotland dominated next on beam, claiming the three golds on offer across the age groups by youth Jessica Gow, junior Kaci Sweeney (Abingdon) and senior Crystelle Lake.
Our reigning Scottish senior and youth (aspire) champions Crystelle and Jessica didn’t stop there as they each brought home gold in their all-around competitions and on floor. Combining the all-around scores from across the age levels, they sat first and second respectively – an impressive result from Jessica on her Scottish international debut. A slight error near the end of what otherwise was a solid routine didn’t stop Crystelle from adding another medal to her collection in the form of bronze on bars.
Over in the men’s competition, West Lothian senior Euan McLellan excelled in finals as he improved his high bar score from fifth place (10.750) to first with 12.300. The next gold medal was earned on p-bars, again improving as he qualified in third on this apparatus. Returning to the podium for a final time, McLellan was awarded silver on rings. Club teammate Kyle Millar just missed out on an all-around podium spot by 1.150 but stepped up to take gold on floor and silver on vault respectively.

Kaci Sweeney | Abingdon | Junior women’s bars fourth
