Commonwealth Gold for Purvis on Parallel Bars
DANIEL PURVIS WINS COMMONWEALTH INDIVIDUAL PARALLEL BARS GOLD
Daniel Purvis went on to parallel bars in the final routine of the event, after GB team mates Nile Wilson, Max Whitlock and Frank Baines scored highly. Daniel knew that a score of 14.866 or higher would see him take his place on podium. Upping his difficulty to a 6.5 score, he delivered his routine with aplomb scoring a massive 15.533 to win the gold medal.
Daniel couldnt contain his delight at winning gold,
"I am just over the moon to be honest. Coming in today I didn't expect to get gold, just to get another medal in front of a home crowd would be fantastic. I am absolutely over the moon."
Daniel Keatings gold medal yesterday inspired him to glory, "It was just fantastic, Daniel Keatings done fantastic. I tried to repeat that today, he told me yesterday he just went for everything and that's what I tried to do today. It was a strong final, I am just really happy."
His relief that it is now all over and he has finished with a medal, "I'm so relieved. Coming in to the Games I wouldn't have expected gold, silver and bronze. The team medal has been the most important thing. To compete with my team mates has been fantastic so I will sit and cheer Dan Keatings and Frank Baines on and just relax."
On what Team Scotland's medal succcess at Glasgow 2014 has been like,
"It has just been great all round for the sport and gymnastics and for people watching. Everyone is just pushing each other, there's so many people that could have won a medal in this competition and I think that it is just great for the sport."
On where this ranks in comparison to his Olympic team bronze…
"Just as big! To do it in front of a home crowd, I'm so proud to do it for my family. The crowd has been absolutely fantastic and to finish off with a gold medal has just been as fantastic as the Olympics."
