Disability | Magnificent medal success at the 2024 British Disability Championships
Scottish gymnasts won a total of forty-five medals at the 2024 British Disability Championships hosted in the Sports Wales National Centre, Cardiff on Saturday 28 September.
Four Scottish clubs; City of Glasgow, Eclipse, North East and West Lothian, were represented across the competition levels in the annual artistic event. Gymnasts competed for the all-around medals in their age, level and classification category; learning disabilities sit under class I with physical and sensory impairment as class II. Classifications were then merged to determine the champions on apparatus in each age and level competition.

In the senior B competition City of Glasgow teammates Emily McAlpine (class I) and Monica (class II) Fisher topped the podium to both retain their all-around titles as well as both tying for the floor gold. Monica also earned gold once again on beam with a routine that wowed audiences in the room and on British Gymnastics social media alike.
The afternoon hosted the remaining women’s levels and the full men’s artistic competition. Harley Davis, City of Glasgow and Scottish Gymnastics Youth forum member, won a haul of silver and bronze medals with the most notable being gold on rings.
Holly Lench (City of Glasgow) brought home gold on bars and shows consistency on vault as she placed first on the apparatus for the second year running in senior women’s A competition. West Lothian’s junior Sophie Barnett (pictured left) excelled in the Open class I category securing gold in the all-around, beam and bars competitions with a bronze on vault also.
