Honours List | Former President Recognised
A former president of the Scottish Gymnastics Association has been recognised in the New Year Honours list 2024.
David C Watt OBE has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the economy, to sport and to education. The OBE is awarded for distinguished regional or county-wide role in any field, through achievement or service to the community including notable practitioners known nationally.
As president between 1987 and 1993, David was pivotal in increasing Scottish Gymnastics membership and ensuring the sport had a strategic future in Scotland. He served on the Scottish Gymnastics board as marketing director from 2004 to 2011 and was then on the British Gymnastics board until 2019. He was a gymnastics coach and tutor and is an honorary life member of Scottish Gymnastics.
David has been chair of Fife College since 2019 and was formerly executive director of the Institute of Directors in Scotland. During his career, he has been a governance consultant and advisor and written sport leisure textbooks.
