GB Senior Men Win European Silver
Team Scotland star Daniel Purvis was part of a five man team to win European silver in Bern on Saturday 28th May.
The Great Britain senior men's team of Purvis, Nile Wilson, Kristian Thomas, Courtney Tulloch and Louis Smith retained the European silver medal, with Russia taking the title and host nation Switzerland in bronze medal position. The format of the final meant that of the five strong team, three gymnasts competed on each of the six apparatus, heaping extra pressure on Purvis and Wilson who were the only two Brits competing all-around. Unfazed, both gymnasts were in fine form, managing to increase their qualification scores. Stellar performances from apparatus specialists Courtney Tulloch on rings, Louis Smith on pommel and Kristian Thomas on vault all contributed to a combined team score of 268.427.
Great Britain was also well represented in Sunday's apparatus finals, and amongst the competitors was Daniel Purvis who competed for a medal on floor. Dan had to count a few unstable landings in his routine, ending up with 14.633 and 8th place. The medals of the day came from Nile Wilson and Kristian Thomas who made it a 1-2 finish in the high bar final, marking the first time a British gymnast has claimed a European high bar title.
