GB Success at World Championships in Tokyo
Kim Beattie from Banchory Trampoline and DMT Club won team silver at the World Championships in Japan.
The Scottish senior gymnast of the year was part of the British women’s double-mini trampoline team with Ruth Shevelan, Kirsty Way, Bethany Williamson who scored a total of 104.500, just losing out on gold to the USA who scored 104.700.
Kim went on to compete in the double mini-trampoline individual final with Kirsty on Sunday scoring 66.300 and 61.600 to finish sixth and seventh places.
Scottish Gymnastics performance manager Wendy Purdie said: “Congratulations to Kim on winning another team silver at the world championships. There were some really good scores and they were so close to taking the title.
“To be competing in her third senior world championships and reach the individual final in a highly competitive field is a great achievement. Well done to Kim and her personal coaches.”
The championships saw great success for the GB team winning women’s tumbling individual silver for Shanice Davidson and bronze for Megan Kealy, individual tumbling silver for Elliott Browne, men’s and women’s team tumbling gold, double-mini trampoline women’s team silver and women’s trampoline team silver medals.
Their and Kim’s success paves the way for the world age group competition this weekend also at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo.
Darci Tierney and Sophie Campbell, both from Sapphire Gymnastics Club will compete in the tumbling category, 13-14 girls’ competition and 11-12 girls’ category respectively. Their coach Jasmine Lessani was named young coach of the year at the Scottish Gymnastics Awards last month while Sophie won the young gymnast of the year title.
They will be joined by Scottish women’s DMT champion Ciara Donlevy from City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club who is in the double-mini trampoline 17–21 age category. Her coach Lauren Jeffrey is also part of the Great Britain delegation.
We wish them every success and will be following their progress across the championships.
