Glasgow 2014 – Day Two Rhythmic Round Up
Day 2 of Team Scotland's Commonwealth Games saw rhythmic gymnast Lauren Brash compete in the Hydro Arena, Glasgow, in the Individual All Around final.
Lauren took to the floor alongside a stellar line up of gymnasts which included Canadian gymnast Patricia Bezzoubenko, 2014 Pacific Rim champion, and 2014 British All Around champion Laura Halford (Wales).
Lauren delivered a sterling display finishing in 16th position with a score of 44.875. Her first apparatus of the day was hoop and the home crowd once again welcomed her with great applause. A slight drop of the apparatus the only blip in an otherwise clean first routine, scoring 10.800.
A beautiful ball routine on Lauren's second rotation of the day impressed the audience, her graceful skills earning her a score of 11.350. As Lauren moved to her third apparatus (clubs) she was visibly growing in confidence. A drop of the clubs did not knock her off her stride, recovering well to deliver a strong performance scoring 11.400, her highest score of the competition.
Lauren ended her competition and her 2014 Commonwealth Games with a beautifully delivered ribbon, routine scoring 11.325 which delighted both her and the huge home crowd.
Describing her performance in the Individual All Around Final Lauren said,
I didn't even expect to get here so, I had to concentrate, I thought it might just be a one day competition. To compete in the final was the most amazing experience ever
On competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games Lauren continued,
I have so much happiness, it has been amazing, I am now excited for the future!
Lauren can take immense pride in her performances throughout the Glasgow 2014 Games. Competing alongside some of the world's best rhythmic gymnasts to qualify for the Commonwealth Individual All Around Final in her first year as a senior gymnast is an excellent achievement.
Lauren's ribbon routine marked the end of Team Scotland's rhythmic gymnasts involvement in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Team Coach Marion Sands described her joy at leading the Scottish rhythmic team at Glasgow 2014,
It has been such a privilege, I can't describe it. They have been a great team. They have worked hard, the results have been positive and it shows that we are going the right way. Lauren making the top 16 is fantastic.
