Historic Medal at Senior Acrobatic European Championships
The trio of Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands won a bronze medal at the Acrobatic Gymnastics European Championships to end their successful partnership on a high.
This was the final event for the Acrobay Gymnastics Trust group after a successful competitive career during which they represented Great Britain as juniors at the world age group championships.
Erin and Sacha deferred their places at university last year to allow them to continue as a partnership at senior level.
On the first day of qualification in Israel, the girls scored a fantastic 28.030 to their James Bond themed dynamic routine. Their balance routine on the second day of the event on Friday 1 November scored 27.750 for a total of 55.780, qualifying them for the all-around final on Saturday and the balance final on Sunday.
In the all-around final, the trio earned 29.060 for their well-executed combined routine bringing their total score to 84.840 which won them the bronze medal behind Belgium and Portugal.
In the final of the balance routine on Sunday, they ended their championship with a fifth-place finish, less than half a mark off a second medal.
Scottish Gymnastics Performance Manager Wendy Purdie said:
This is a historic achievement for Scottish gymnasts, winning a medal at a Senior European Championships.
“Erin, Sacha and Chloe have been great role models to younger gymnasts within the acrobatic discipline of gymnastics in Scotland. They have allowed younger gymnasts see that with hard work and determination great achievements can happen.”
Congratulations to Erin, Sacha and Chloe and their coach Suzanne Fraser, on their European bronze medal and everything they have achieved as a partnership.
