In memoriam | John White
Scottish Gymnastics is saddened to hear of the death of John White on 26 August 2024.
After a successful gymnastics career south of the border, both as a competitor and instrumental in supporting recreational gymnastics, John was director of gymnastics for Scotland before becoming managing director of Gymnova. Not only was John passionate in pushing the competitive side of the sport forward, but he also had a very strong ethos of ‘gymnastics for all’ that led to general gymnastics becoming a strong discipline in its own right, a legacy that lives on.
Robert Callahan has fond memories of John having first met him at Lilleshall National Training Centre. Robert recalls that “John was one of those people that everybody liked and we were very happy when he joined Scottish Gymnastics. During his time here he introduced us to TeamGym which became very popular in Scotland and soon we were winning medals here and in Europe thanks to John’s support and dedication.”
He will be missed by his gymnastics friends here in Scotland and the wider gymnastics family and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
