Recreational | Glasgow gym crowned as double award winners
Mearns Gymnastics Club have won the Club of the Year award at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure’s Sport and Physical Activity Awards 2025. The south Glasgow-based gym offers a range of recreational classes across various disciplines and age groups.
Jacqui Wilson – Mearns’ head coach and manager – said that she is thrilled about the club’s success. “We’re absolutely delighted. It means so much because it recognises not just the club but the families, coaches, volunteers and young people who have made Mearns Gymnastics Club what it is today.
“It’s been a year of growth and transition with plenty of fun along the way. We’ve had more coaches gaining their qualifications, gymnasts taking their first steps into coaching through the Leadership Award course, and we were proud to deliver our first additional support needs gymnastics sessions at Isobel Mair School. We’ve also welcomed new gymnasts, new coaches and a brilliant team of volunteers who are an integral part of the club.”
It was double delight on the night for Mearns as one of their members, Jessica McCambridge, also won some silverware. She earned the Young Coach of the Year award as a result of her hard work in the gym. This is the second year in a row that someone from the club has come first in this category.
“We’re immensely proud of Jessica,” Wilson stated. “Jessica always gives 100% when coaching and to see her recognised like this is fantastic. She’s a great role model to our young gymnasts and a huge support to the rest of the coaching team.
“Jessica is kind, caring, committed, hardworking and she always encourages the gymnasts to be the best they can be. She brings so much energy and warmth to every session and we honestly couldn’t imagine the club without her.”
Mearns would love to welcome any new members to the club. You can get in contact with them via their email, mearnsgymnastics@hotmail.com, or on social media.
