Medal Glory at 2016 British Acrobatic Championships
The 2016 British Acrobatic Championships came to a close on Sunday 31st July with prestigious titles decided in the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
The first Scottish performance and medal of the day came from the 12-18 women's pairing from Acrobay, Taylor Wilson and Amy Middleton. Performing their combined routine for the first time in these Championships, the girls came away with a score of 24.000 which secured them the joint gold medal with a pairing from Spelthorne. Club mates Jodi Watson, Jane Stevenson & Chloe Rowlands also found podium success in the 12-18 women's group event. Having lead in qualification ahead of South Tyneside, sights were set on a medal. A score of 26.400 wasn't quite enough to take the title though provided them with a worthy silver medal. Last up in the morning session were East Kilbride 13-19 women's group Nicole Smith, Zoe Smith & Megan Gemmell who made it three Scottish podium finishes out of three, also taking home the silver medal.
Erin Henderson & Eve Ormiston opened the afternoon’s proceedings with the third Acrobay medal of the day. They narrowly missed out on gold in the 11-16 women's pair event, scoring 0.300 behind the champions from Southhampton. The Kilmarnock partnership of Simona Marinov & Lucy Glendenning, also competing in the same category, were pipped from the podium and finished in a very respectable 4th place. The final Scottish partnership to compete in these Championships was mixed pair David Arendarik & Tia Kidd from City of Glasgow. Performing their dynamic routine they scored 25.800, winning the silver medal and taking the Scottish tally for the event up to five.
