Scottish Disability Sport Week | Opportunities
With the first Scottish Disability Sport Week coming to a close, what better way than to share how to get involved in the disability gymnastics.
Following the values of inclusive, supportive and aspirational, we strive to ensure delivery of an uplifting gymnastics experience for all.
Find a Club
Our Club Finder tool allows for you to search for as open or specific as you require, from discipline to ability level. Under the activities tab you can select ‘Disability’ to show clubs that offer classes solely for disability in their programmes. In the select groups tab there is also the option to filter your searches by ‘Disability Friendly’ for those that can cater for any additional requirements in their mainstream classes.
Competitive Pathways
Scottish Gymnastics has built and continues to grow an inclusive competition pathway at all levels. For example, men’s and women’s artistic offers disability grades and voluntary competitions that run alongside their mainstream equivalents such as classic challenge and Scottish National Championships. The Artistic British Disability Championships caters for levels from A through to Open across both learning and physical disability categories. From which gymnasts can be selected to compete in the Disability Masters that runs integrated into the mainstream British Championships.
The International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) have committed to developing competition pathways for paragymnasts on the international stage and much more is to come in the next few years on this side. The ultimate aim for the FIG is for gymnastics to become a Paralympic sport and a working group has been established to push this work forward.
Inclusive competitive pathways have also been developed from local to national level for disability gymnasts in acrobatics, rhythmic, trampoline, double mini-trampoline, tumbling and team gym. Please contact the relevant technical panel via the discipline of choice through our members area to find out more.

There are education opportunities for coaches to expand their knowledge and confidence in working with those who have additional needs. Find the next available add on module and/or fill out an interest form on British Gymnastics.
