TeamGym | Performance Programme Gymnasts 2022-23
Scottish Gymnastics has announced the gymnasts selected onto the TeamGym performance pathway programme for 2022-23.
The programme has expanded to include 26 gymnasts who will attend camps led by the development pathway coaches Heidi Bavnhøj, Jack Gibson and Jordan Dewar. The camps will take place from November 2022 until next August.
The performance pathway programme (PPP), introduced in 2021, provides targeted support to develop individual TeamGym gymnasts and their personal coaches who have potential to progress into the elite Great Britain performance pathway.
Scottish Gymnastics performance programmes are based on a culture of providing a supportive environment for gymnasts to thrive, embrace challenges and overcome setbacks as well as taking ownership of their training and development. Our approach is athlete-centred, coach-led, and performance-driven with athlete wellbeing and coach development at the centre.
Gymnasts were selected following an application process and profiling day held on Sunday 30 October at Irvine Bay Gymnastics Club. With ten gymnasts returning to the programme from last year, it has been great to follow their progression in the last twelve months as they continue to work on developing their skills, taking this learning back to their clubs.
The programme is an opportunity for newly selected gymnasts to work on the basic fundamentals of TeamGym to develop their skills across all apparatus, whilst also developing TeamGym brilliant basics and be supported through the expertise of the coaching team.
Scottish Gymnastics performance manager Wendy Purdie said:
It has been great to see the standard of skills and progress from these young athletes in the first year of the programme. We are looking forward to building on that success by creating further development opportunities for more athletes than before with the additional support of our development pathway coaches.
Congratulations to the gymnasts, their personal coaches on their selection for the coming year. We look forward to sharing updates on their progress with the wider gymnastics community.
