Trampoline & DMT | Morgan Named in GB Team for Scalabis Cup
Banchory DMT gymnast, Morgan James has been selected to join the team representing Great Britain at the Scalabis Cup in Santarém, Portugal from 7 to 9 July.
Morgan is no stranger to international competition, having been selected for the GB team at last year’s World Age Group Competitions in Baku, as well as securing team bronze at the Loul? Cup back in 2019 – alongside Banchory teammate Kim Beattie and other Scottish teammates Ciara Donleavy and Kelly Whynne.
Morgan will join the 47 strong team of gymnasts heading to the competition as the only Scottish gymnast to be selected. She will be competing in the junior double-mini trampoline category, hoping to secure individual success as well as a team medal alongside the four other junior DMT gymnasts from across the country. She will be joined at the Scalabis Cup by judges, Brian Scott (Sparta TC) and Lynn Simpson (Flyers TC) and coach Lauren Jeffrey (City of Edinburgh TC) who are all selected by British Gymnastics.
Having missed out on the opportunity to trial for this year’s European Championships due to covid – Morgan is looking forward to getting another opportunity to compete on the international stage at the Scalabis Cup.
Last year, Morgan was also recognised in the Scottish Gymnastics #21Awards in the gymnast success category where she was nominated and crowned winner for the success achieved at British or International level.
On her selection for the Scalabis Cup, Morgan said:
I am very honoured to represent Great Britain again, this time at the Scalabis Cup. I have had a hard start to the year, with multiple illnesses preventing me from training and competing, so I feel excited to be given this opportunity. I can't wait to get out there!
Melanie Stewart Wills, Morgan’s coach said: “We are all so delighted for Morgan, getting this opportunity to compete for GB in Portugal."
"Morgan has had a tough year, getting covid twice, and missing important trials for the European Championships. She is building up her passes and preparing well for the competition. We look forward to watching how well she does – all the best to Morgan and the GB Team”
Wendy Purdie, Scottish Gymnastics performance manager said: “Morgan should be very proud of her achievement and selection for the GB team. It is a great opportunity to join other gymnasts at an event where she will learn from and compete alongside gymnasts with a wide range of experience.
Her selection is testament to the hard work and commitment to the sport, and in her club despite a couple of challenging years, and we look forward to following her success at the competition.
Congratulations to Morgan and her coaches, John Wills and Melanie Stewart-Wills.
