Rhythmic | 2022 Scottish Champions Revealed
Scottish rhythmic gymnasts took to the floor at the 2022 Scottish open rhythmic championships and level 1/2 open apparatus competition in Aberdeen on Saturday 11 June.
It was a day of twirling ribbons, leaps and stunning ballet skills as gymnasts competed in the first championships event for rhythmic since 2019, taking place at the Beach Leisure Centre.
Over 60 gymnasts and disability gymnasts were competing, with the morning’s level one and two open apparatus competition which involved free routines, hoop, ball and clubs. You can see the medal winners and full results from these categories below.

There were nine new Scottish champions crowned at the competition, with Emilie Findlay from Beacon claiming the day’s first gold medal in the level three junior competition with a total score of 33.50 across clubs and hoop routines.
At level three, there were also two individual competitors in the under 11 and under 12 categories with Lillie Currie (Pentland) and Lucie Findlay (Beacon) competing their routines in hoop and ribbon.
The new senior level three champion is Thelma Florentsdottir from Beacon who scored 29.35 in clubs and ribbon. Alistair Kemley from City of Glasgow also took home the championship trophy for the disabilities level three senior – class one competition after a thrilling clubs routine.
Level four also saw competitors in the under 9 and under 11 categories, and we welcomed two guest gymnasts from Ukraine who have recently started training with ViSta Gymnastics Academy since arriving in the UK. Mariia Lyvynets’s clubs routine in the under 11 saw her score a fantastic 20.60. Railay Ross from Pentland competed well with strong free and rope routines.
Annabel Summer Weir (ViSta) claimed gold in the level four junior all-around competition with a score of 58.55 with Emma Morrison (Beacon) taking the new championship title at senior level four with her score of 60.30, a full 4.50 points ahead of her competitors.
There were two groups in contention for medals at the championships with both Pentland’s junior group at level four, and Beacon’s senior group at level five becoming the new Scottish champions and some of the most energetic and exciting routines of the day.
Cara MacKay (Esprit) had a fantastic competition with an overall all-around score of 86.55, winning the junior level five competition after her medal-winning performance at last month’s British Championships.
Recently announced as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games team for Scotland, as well as representing Great Britain at international events this year, Beacon’s Louise Christie was on great form at the competition, claiming the senior level five championship gold medal with a score of 94.45.
Scottish Gymnastics head of performance and events Sam Hendrikson said: “Seeing the level of competition at this year’s Scottish Open Rhythmic Championships has been fantastic."
This discipline has developed and grown over recent years with many gymnasts progressing through our performance programmes and competing for medals. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the gymnasts and their coaches in rhythmic clubs across the country.
