Tributes Paid to HM Queen Elizabeth
Scottish Gymnastics is deeply saddened by the death of HM Queen Elizabeth, and share our thoughts and condolences with The Royal Family at this time.
As the Head of the Commonwealth, and having attended numerous previous Commonwealth Games – we know that there has always been a strong affinity with sport, and its values. We thank her for her life of service, and inspiration to people across the world.
On behalf of our community, and as a mark of respect, Scottish Gymnastics will not be sharing any other news for a few days – and will limit our interactions on social media.
After careful deliberation and consultation with our technical committee we have decided to continue with our planned events and performance activity over the weekend.
There will be opportunities to reflect and pay tribute to The Queen during these events. A minute of silence will be observed at periods throughout the day, so that everyone who wishes to, can mark their respects. We wil also use this space to share tributes from our members and partners.
Doc McKelvey, Scottish Gymnastics CEO said:
Scottish Gymnastics and the gymnastics community across Scotland join the rest of the country in sending our condolences and thoughts to The Royal Family at this deeply sad time. Her Majesty The Queen was well known for her love of sport and was patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation. The Queen's dedication, leadership and service has been, and will continue to be, an example to us all. She will be dearly missed by all involved in sport in Scotland and across the world.
Brian Ewing OBE, Scottish Gymnastic Chair added:
We are devastated by the loss of such a prominent leading figure, and will be joining the period of national mourning over the coming days. This is a time of great sadness, but we hope in celebrating The Queen's memory and coming together as a commuity, it will allow us all the chance to share our experiences and the positive impact that she has had on us all.
