Acrobatic | Gymnasts Selected for 5th International Acro Cup
Acrobatic partnerships from across the country along with coaches and a judge have been selected to represent Scotland as the delegation at the 5th International Acrobatic Cup in Budapest, Hungary from 1 to 2 October 2022.
The 21 gymnasts selected for the team were chosen following a selection event last month, with the partnerships decided by the selection panel based on the selection criteria with many of the gymnasts developing their skills as part of one of our performance programmes.
The delegation is made up of partnerships from Acrobay, Dynamic and East Kilbride Gymnastics Club with both pairs and groups competing across the age categories, from 11-16, 12-18 and 13-19. The last time Scottish Gymnastics sent a delegation to the event back in 2018, the team returned home with five medals.
Following a successful competition and GB representation in Rzeszow, Poland earlier this year, Acrobay women’s pair Nephele Idehen and Daisy Campbell will be returning for their second international event of the year at the 12-18 age group, alongside their coach, Suzanne Fraser who will join the delegation as the team coach.
They will also be joined by women’s pair, Grace Crawford and Ava Curtis who were also selected to represent GB in Poland in the 11-16 age group but unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. Both pairs are part of the Scottish Gymnastics performance programmes for acrobatics, and have been receiving support from the national technical lead, Ian Said who will also be travelling to Budapest with the team as head coach.
The final women’s pair selected for the International Acrobatic Cup are Dynamic’s Emma Logan and Gemma Russell who will compete in the 12-18 age group.
Five women’s groups have been selected for the competition, with Scarlett Haldane, Emma Nelson and Ella Grace and Poppy Pain, Rosa Morrison and Belle Temple from Acrobay selected in the 11-16 age group. This will be Scarlett’s second appearance at this event, returning now with a new partnership and the hopes of claiming a medal this time round.
East Kilbride gymnasts Eve Macfarlane, Nieve Ewart and Ellie Farwell will compete in the women’s group 12-18 competition, with their teammates Abbie Mailey, Caitlin MacKinnon and Eva Ross selected to represent Scotland in the 13-19 age category. Nicky Youl, a former member of the Scottish Gymnastics acrobatic technical committee will attend as the delegation’s judge.
The final group selected for the event are Karla Hillcoat, Emillie Keenan and Tia Kidd from Dynamic who will compete in the 13-19 age category, with coach Michelle Diniz travelling with the team as an assistant coach. Karla is also a returning gymnast at this event, and she will be looking to repeat her silver medal winning performance as part of a new group this time, rather than the group she was a member of in 2018. Scottish Gymnastics communications and marketing officer, Jacob Brydon will be Team Manager for the competition.
Wendy Purdie, Scottish Gymnastics Performance manager said:
The acrobatic cup in Budapest is a great opportunity for Scottish gymnasts to develop their confidence and compete at international level alongside their teammates from home.
“We are excited to see how the gymnasts get on, with the fantastic support of a strong coaching team at the event.”
Scottish Gymnastics will share updates from the competition, and we wish the team the very best. You can follow the event with live streams on the event website from 1 October.
