Acrobatic | NDP Regional Final Medals for Scottish Gymnasts
Scottish acrobatic partnerships from six clubs secured a total of ten medals at the Acrobatic NDP, Youth and IDP British Finals in Stoke on 14 and 15 May.
The impressive medal haul included three gold and four bronze at NDP level, two gold in the youth categories and a silver at IDP level.
Selection for the event was based on results at the Scottish National Acrobatic NDP Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth on 5 and 6 March. Gymnasts competed to represent both their clubs, and the Scotland region, with medals awarded in each of the categories, for both dynamic and balance, or combined routines.
At NDP grade one, it was a close competition with the women’s pair from Acrobay, Leona Williamson and Khloe Cameron winning the gold medal with a score of 27.35, beating the pair representing the North-West region by just 0.10 points.
At grade two, it was bronze for the women’s pair and group from Acrobay. Lillie MacKean and Lauren Whitfield finished with a score of 27.75, and Neave Burns, Zofia Jurkiewicz & Isla Paton on 26.90.
There was a gold medal for Imara Beattie and Ruby Melville (Acrobay) at grade three who shared the top score with Martsenko/Wells from London. It all came down to the artistry score, putting the Scots pair 0.10 ahead to secure the top podium place.
There were bronze medals for the City of Glasgow grade four mixed pair, Aiden O’Connor and Millie Kennedy (26.25) and Acrobay’s Eilidh Park, Emma Burns and Tayla Pettiglio in the grade four women’s group competition (26.55).
Acrobay women’s pair Darcey Coulston and Skye Archibald whose scores of 26.450 for balance and 25.50 for dynamic routines gave them a clear 1.05 point lead on the competition and enough for the gold
Ben Rutherford and Leo Massantini (Ayrshire) finished seventh in the men’s pair at grade three, and Georgia Haddow, Jorja Smith and Ellie Murray (Acrobay) came fifth in the grade three women’s group competition. Isla Mayor and Ruby Cunningham (Acrobay) placed seventh in the grade four women’s pair final and Isla Gould, Ffion Smith and Mlin Begg (Acrobay) whose combined score of 50.90 earned them fifth place.
At youth level, it was a golden day for Dynamic’s Neive Grant and Amelia Davidson, who came out on top with a score of 26.50 as well as East Kilbride trio, Jennifer Brownlie, Sophie Dolan and Sunny Pham who finished with 26.05
Finally, at IDP level one – it was a silver medal for Kilmarnock women’s pair, Ailie Slivinski & Macey Dayer who were just 0.15 point behind the leaders McNicholas/Mills representing the North West.
Wendy Purdie, Scottish Gymnastics performance manager said: “The results achieved at the NDP Regional finals are fantastic for the all the gymnasts and their personal coaches. All the partnerships’ results that were part of the Scottish region’s team are testament to the hard work being carried out by the gymnasts and their coaches in their own club every week."
Every partnership that was selected for this event should recognise it as a great achievement and congratulations to the partnerships that managed to achieve a podium finish.
Congratulations to the medallists and well done to the all the partnerships, coaches and clubs who competed for the Scottish region.
