Artistic Gymnasts Selected for National Performance Programme
Following two back-to-back weekends of trials for the men’s and women’s artistic hopefuls, the first wave of gymnasts have been selected onto the National Performance Programme (NPP) for 2018-19. The selected gymnasts and their coaches will be supported through a series of camps through to March 2019 where the focus will be supporting their technical development along with support from physical preparation, physiotherapy and nutrition. In the women’s programme there will also be support and resources tailored around female athlete health.
On the Women’s programme, Claire Barbieri continues to lead the programme as National Technical Advisor. The programme kicks off with a three-day camp at the sportscotland Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre.
With the exciting news that Paul Hall MBE has been appointed to his role at British Gymnastics, the men’s NPP will be hosted by South Essex Gymnastics Club for their first camp, expanding on the already established links through the Performance Pathway Programme.
Commenting on the selection, Performance Manager, Jamie Bowie said: “It is a really exciting time for both our men’s and women’s programme with some of our Commonwealth Games athletes rejoining, along with some new gymnasts and clubs involved in the for the very first time.
"The camps are a really great opportunity for coaches and gymnasts to work together and be supported with strong technical leadership along with a package of support around physical preparation, physiotherapy and nutrition.”
We wish all the gymnasts and coaches the very best in their journey along the National Performance Programme.
