Commonwealth Games 2026 | Mascot revealed as one year to go
The official mascot for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has been revealed to mark one year to go to the global sporting event.
Finnie the unicorn was unveiled at dawn, appearing at the top of the city’s famous Finnieston Crane, which is also her namesake. Designed in collaboration with 76 schoolchildren from 24 schools across Glasgow, Finnie is a unicorn – Scotland’s national animal.
The Commonwealth Games take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026 with over 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories. Artistic gymnastics is one of 10 sports that fans can enjoy at the global multi-sport event.
Scottish gymnasts are already preparing to earn a place in Team Scotland following publication of the selection policy in May. We wish them all the best in their preparations over the coming months.
Finnie
Finnie’s orange and white horn is inspired by the iconic traffic cone on the Duke of Wellington’s statue – a nod to Glasgow’s cheeky sense of humour. She wears a friendship bracelet in her Games colours to symbolise connection. Her outfit features the official Glasgow 2026 tartan, designed by Scottish fashion designer Siobhan Mackenzie.
Finnie’s earring is borrowed from the city’s coat of arms and her star tattoos come from the legendary Barrowlands Ballroom. Her bright orange trainers have a hint of grey steel as a nod to the Clyde shipyards. A violet sweatband and cap holds her vibrant pink and purple mane, which is inspired by the bright lights of the Glasgow venue, The Hydro.

We asked some national artistic performance gymnasts to pitch their mascot names and only one of them guessed a unicorn! Watch the full video on our social media using the buttons below to see who got it right.
Best wishes to Finnie in her new role. We can’t wait to see her exploring the city over the next year and beyond!
