Darci Called Up for World Championships
Darci Tierney has been called up to the tumbling team for the world age group competition in Japan in December.
The Sapphire Gymnastics Club gymnast was originally named as first reserve when the British team was named in July. However, Darci will now be competing in 13-14 girls’ competition which takes place in Tokyo between 5 and 8 December. She joins her club mate and best friend Sophie Campbell who is competing in the 11-12 girls’ category.
This is more good news in what has been a good week for Sapphire. Sophie and Darci’s coach Jasmine Lessani was named young coach of the year at the Scottish Gymnastics Awards last Saturday while Sophie won the young gymnast of the year title.
Also competing in Tokyo in the world age group competition is Scottish women’s DMT champion Ciara Donlevy from City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club who is in the double-mini trampoline 17 – 21 age category. Her coach Lauren Jeffrey is also part of the Great Britain delegation.
Newly-crowned Scottish gymnast of the year Kim Beattie from Banchory Trampoline and DMT Club will represent Great Britain in DMT for the third successive year at the world championships which are held in Tokyo between 28 November and 1 December.
We’ll be following the four gymnasts in Japan and bringing you news of the events.
