Regional Teams at Women’s Artistic NDP Finals 2018
The Scottish region had a successful trip to the recent women’s artistic NDP finals at Fenton Manor, Stoke-on-Trent. Held last weekend, the gymnasts returned with numerous medals to show for excellent team and individual performances.
Hamilton Gymnastics Club’s Abbie Nicoll, competing in the NDP Grade 1 competition, led the way on the vault with a score of 13.200 to take first place before taking second spot on the floor (12.850). These impressive results let to a sixth place all-around (62.450) in turn helping to ensure that her team, Eilidh Gorrell, Grace Muir and Lilly Roy, clinched the bronze medal with a combined score of 188.100.
The NDP Grade 3 competition saw Poppy Cunningham of Lasswade Gymnastics Club lead the way on two of the apparatus . Poppy scored 13.150 on the bars and 13.050 on the beam to take the silver all-around medal on 65.100, only 0.200 behind Maggie May Shepherd from the east region who took the gold. Hawa Keita, Tilly Bee, Aphra Davidson and Beth Fallow joined Poppy to make up the grade 3 team who took bronze in the team competition with a strong final score of 191.900.
Another Lasswade gymnast, Zara Baillie, competing in the NDP Grade 2 competition, took third place on the beam with a score of 12.60. In the team competition Zara was joined by Layla Williams, Neve Mitchell, Rebecca-Ann Greig and Ava Russell who finished a very respectable seventh place in a strong competition
The NDP Grade 4 Scottish Regional team of Chloe Workman, Erin Devine, Halle Mathieson, Taylor Duncan and Amber Thomson performed well to end on a final score of 186.350 to earn tenth place.
